In a strategic move to mobilise support among the Other Backward Classes (OBC) voters in Western Uttar Pradesh ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Union Minister and National President of the Republican Party of India, Ramdas Athawale, is set to conduct ‘Jan Adhikar’ rally. in Meerut on October 1.
The rally, poised to have a significant impact on the political landscape in the region, will be attended by Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and other prominent leaders, including the BJP’s national vice-president Laxmikant Vajpayee.
After Meerut, Athawale will hold another rally in Lucknow, both of which will focus on discussions about the rights, justice, and entitlements of backward communities.
The Jan Adhikar rally holds particular importance for the BJP as it aims to secure the support of the 37.53% OBC voters in Western UP, a demographic that significantly contributed to the party's success in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. With an eye on repeating that success in 2024, BJP seeks to connect with this crucial voter base through this rally.
The political significance of Western UP can not be understated, and BJP traditionally initiates its campaign strategies in this region. The rally in Meerut, often considered the political capital of Western UP, is a strategic choice for launching this initiative. The presence of MP Rajendra Aggarwal and other prominent BJP leaders on the platform highlights the party’s commitment to mobilising support from the entire Western UP region.
Furthermore, this Jan Adhikar Rally addresses the pressing demands of the Jat community for reservation at the national level. The rally aims to raise awareness about the rights and entitlements of backward classes, with Union Minister Ramdas Athawale playing a pivotal role in delivering this message.
“Ramdas Athawale’s Jan Adhikar Rally is a well-thought-out political maneuver by the BJP to consolidate support from the OBC voters in Western UP and address the concerns of various backward communities, setting the stage for a potentially game-changing impact in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections,” a senior BJP leader said.
