Friday, 23 June 2023 | PNS | Jamshedpur

The National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur campus inaugurated its much awaited Alumni Centre on Tuesday. After the establishment of the institute (1960), the Centre was inaugurated with the efforts and leadership of the new director (Dr.) Goutam Sutradhar, a distinguished alumnus of the institute, 1967 batch cum R.S.B. Chairman RK Behra inaugurated the centre.

On this occasion, many eminent alumni connected through virtual media from the country and abroad and registered their presence in the ceremony.

In his address as an alumnus, R.K. Behera said that I am grateful to all the alumni students, due to their efforts the Alumni Centre is being built in the 63-year-old institution, I am very happy. I am grateful to Jitendra Kumar and Chittaranjan Sahay, the office bearers of the Alumni Student Organization (Neerja) who made me a life member. Today the institute is ranked 130th in the country. Alumni can play a role in improving this rank. I will cooperate fully in this. Whether it is a matter of infrastructure or other activities. There is a need to work on research here. Will have to do better in my PhD. In this, industrial sport is required for new technology. For this we all have to change our mind set. I agree that an incubation center should be established here.

Director in his address said that alumni play a vital role in the development of the institute. They are our ambassadors, today many alumni are in good positions in the country and abroad, they are big entrepreneurs, they are running big organizations in the country and abroad, they can take the institute to heights by joining us. He said that he wishes that the institute develops into a corporate design in which alumni can collaborate. Adityapur industrial area is located close to NIT Jamshedpur, this is a plus point for this institute and students studying here are getting its benefits. B.N. Dixit (1966 batch) in his address said that today is a historic day. We have gone to Patna and BIT Sindri to do practicals. Today the former students are getting halls in the institute. I have been the president of the student union.

On this occasion of the inauguration of the Alumni Centre, many alumni of the institute prominently Sanjeev Paul (former Vice President Tata Steel), RT Singh (former Plant Head Tata Motor), Shailesh Kumar Jha, Sharvesh Upadhyay, Bindu Srivastava, Prof. Shailendra Kumar (Professor NIT), and the first student of the first batch Mr. Kanhaiya Lal Agarwal (1960 batch) as well as many students from the country and abroad through virtual medium like Mr. R.K.
