2 killed, several hurt in Barabanki house collapse

Two persons were killed and several others were injured after a three-storey building collapsed in the Fatehpur Kotwali area of Barabanki district.

The rescue operation is on as three more persons are trapped under the rubble.

According to Barabanki’s Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar Singh, the two deceased have been identified as Roshni Bano (22) and Hakimuddin (28), both of Fatehpur town in Barabanki district.

“Around 3 am on Sunday, a three-storey building suddenly collapsed in Fatehpur Kotwali area of Barabanki. There was a stir in the whole area due to the loud sound of the building falling. We received information about this from the local residents,” the SP said.

The SP further said that shortly after the information about the collapse of the building was received, the police along with the fire brigade and a team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reached the spot.

“The rescue team immediately started the rescue operations and 12 people were pulled out of the rubble. They were seriously injured,” the police said.

The SP added that the 12 injured were sent to the district hospital for treatment.

“During treatment, two people succumbed to their injuries. Eight others in critical condition were sent to King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow. Two people were discharged after first aid at the district hospital,” the police official added.

Those sent to the KGMU for treatment were identified as Mehak (12), Shakeela (50), Sultan (24), Kulsum (47), Zainab Fatima (7), Zafarul Hasan (20), Salman (26) and Sameer (16).

The two injured who were discharged from the district hospital are Mohammed Azam (18) and Altamas (11), both residents of Fatehpur town in Barabanki district.

The official stated that by 6 am, the rescue team was still evacuating three people trapped under the rubble of the building.

“As per the local residents, the building was not dilapidated and had been built only a few years back,” the SP added.

He said the reason for the collapse was not known and further investigation was underway.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the mishap in Barabanki district and expressed deep grief over the loss of lives in the incident.

Wishing peace to the departed soul, he expressed condolences to the bereaved family.

The chief minister instructed the district administration to provide proper treatment to the injured. He also wished for speedy recovery of the injured.
