The Orissa Environmental Society (OES) has decided to honour some persons who have made significant contributions to the field of environment with various awards. The awards will be conferred on June 5 on the occasion of the World Environment Day.
The 'Water Man of Odisha Award' will be presented to Padma Shri Daitari Naik of Keonjhar, who is popularly known as the ‘Canal Man Odisha'. Dr Kunja Bihari Satpathy, Professor of Botany, will get the 'Environmentalist of the Year Award - 2023' for his outstanding research in the field of medicinal plants and plant taxonomy.
Besides, Dr Prakash Chandra Jena, Associate Professor, is to be felicitated with the 'Green Crusader Award' for raising awareness in the field of biodiversity conservation and man-elephant conflicts in the State.
On this occasion, a special discussion by experts will be held on the UN theme for this year's World Environment Day, 'Beat Plastic Pollution'. OES president Dr Sundara Narayana Patro and secretary Dr Jayakrushna Panigrahi have requested the environmentall- conscious people to participate in the programme to be held in the OES premises.
