Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday attacked the Bhupesh Baghel-led Congress Government in Chhattisgarh over the Mahadev Betting App scam.
Seeking an answer from Baghel on the scam, Modi said wads of cash have been seized in raids by investigation agencies and pointed out that the Chief Minister’s aides are in jail.
Addressing an election rally in Mungeli district of Chhattisgarh, the Prime Minister hit out at the Congress over corruption and said the countdown has begun for the exit of its government in Chhattisgarh.
Modi also took a veiled jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi saying that “some great sages of the Congress have developed an interest in math”.
“The Congress is so interested in teaching math. Today I want to ask them some questions,” Modi said. The PM said that more than `508 crore were allegedly distributed in the Mahadev Betting App scam.
“The Chief Minister’s close aides are behind bars. These mathematicians of Congress will have to tell how much share the CM has received in this, what is the share of the money gone to other Congress netas and how much money has gone to the Delhi darbar?” PM Modi said in a stinging attack on Gandhi-Congress.
Last week, the probe agency ED said that an email statement from a suspect in the alleged scam revealed that promoters of the operation paid bribes worth `508 crore to Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
The BJP later shared a video of Shubham Soni, an accused in the Mahadev Book betting app case, saying he is its owner and had the “proof” of paying `508 crore so far to Baghel. Baghel has rejected the claim.
A separate FIR in Mumbai has named several top businessmen, including industrialists, as reported by The Pioneer on Sunday.
Modi also took a dig at the purported power-sharing agreement between Baghel and Deputy CM TS Singh Deo, saying that when the Congress can ditch its own senior leaders, it is certain that it will cheat people and not fulfill the promises made to them.
“The Congress has also understood that now its time is over in Chhattisgarh. Some journalist friends from Delhi and political analysts have told me that the Chief Minister (Baghel) is himself going to lose (election from Patan seat),” Modi said.
PM Modi also said the Congress hates him so much that it abuses the entire OBC community in his name.
“The Congress hates Modi. They have started hating even Modi’s caste. For the last several months, Congress has been abusing the entire OBC community in the name of Modi...They have even refused to apologize after a court directed them to do so,” he said.
“This is an example of how much hatred they have for the OBC community. It is the Congress which insulted Babasaheb Ambedkar. It is the Congress which conspired to end Babasaheb’s politics,” Modi said.
The Congress can do anything for vote bank and appeasement, he added. Polling for 20 out of the total 90 Assembly seats in Chhattisgarh was held on November 7. Voting in the remaining 70 seats will be held on November 17.
