The water level in the Yamuna River has risen above the danger mark, reaching 206.39 meters at the Old Railway Bridge in Delhi. The surge in discharge from the Hathnikund Barrage, resulting from heavy rainfall in parts of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, has led to the rapid increase in the river’s water level. This is expected to rise to 206.7 metres by Monday morning. “Thereafter the water level is likely to remain steady,” stated the forecast.
Meanwhile, the Delhi flood has claimed a fresh victim, as a three-year-old boy drowned in north Delhi’s Kirari area with his family blaming it on the negligence of the administration. The deceased, identified as Arif, was the only brother among his five sisters.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Delhi Lieutenant-Governor VK Saxena about the water level in the Yamuna River. “Spoke to Gujarat CM Shri @Bhupendrapbjp Ji about the flood-like situation occurring in various parts of the State due to the recent heavy rainfall. Also had a discussion with LG of Delhi, Shri VK Saxena Ji about the water level in the Yamuna river. Ample numbers of SDRF and NDRF teams are available to help the people in need,” the Home Minister said on Twitter.
