If the reaction of Hindus in Tamil Nadu towards the hate speech of the DMK leaders condemning Sanatana Dharma as everything from dengue to leprosy is any indication, a strong resentment is brewing up in the State against the Government led by MK Stalin, according to Sanatan Dharma activists like Arjun Sampath.
It all started with Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi exhorting people to annihilate and abolish Sanatan Dharma which according to the latter was more contagious than Dengue, Malaria and Corona.
A Raja, former Union minister who shot into notoriety through the 2G spectrum case went one step further and said that the Sanatan Dharma was more dangerous than HIV and leprosy and should be banished from the Dravidian land once and for ever.
Political pundits in Tamil Nadu are baffled by the timing of Udhayanaidhi Stalin’s reported charges against the Sanatanis.
“There is nothing surprising in these charges against the Sanatan Dharma. The DMK has been telling the same for the last 100 years but the show goes on. I wish Stalin and his son focused more on governance than cakling for genocide of the Sanatanis,” said R Rajagopalan, veteran political commentator.
CD Meyyappan, AICC leader, declined to make any observation about these statements by the father-son duo. “Till he called for the abolition of Sanatan Dharma, Udhayanidhi was known only in Tamil Nadu. Now he has become an international figure. But I am sure that the controversy will die a natural death in the next few days,” said Meyyappan.
An interesting fact about the silence maintained by the Hindu monks in the State has come out. According to Arjun Sampath, president, Hindu Makkal Katchi, an organisation trying to get the temple doors opened up for all irrespective of caste and creed, the Aadheenams (Ashrams) in Tamil Nadu are afraid to react to the statements by the DMK leaders.
“All these ashrams are controlled by the Department of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments and the minister in charge is Sekhar Babu, a Dravidian hothead. The pontiffs of these Mutts stand to lose their position if they antagonise the DMK,” Sampath told The Pioneer.
The HMK founder also said that the move by entrepreneurs and industrialists in the State have to be noticed with concern. “Many of them are planning to move out of Tamil Nadu. The mushrooming of industrial parts in the Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border is a signal that all is not well in Dravida Nadu,” he said.
The monks are on a mission to convince the Sanatan believers that there is no Tamil Nadu without Sanatan Dharma. “The Tamil history, whether it be cultural, social or political history survives because of the contributions made by Shiva and Vishnu saints. The State wakes up everyday to the hymns composed by the 63 Saiva saints, collectively addressed as Nayanmaar and the 12 Vaishnava saints Alvars who composed Divya Prabhandam,” said Sampath, who asked whether there was a day in the State which has not echoed with these devotional songs.
An observation made by the Madras High Court chief justice SV Gangapurvala and justice PD Audikesavulu on September 5 has come as a shocker to the DMK Government.
The First Bench termed the continuation of Senthil Balaji who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on charges of money laundering as a Constitutional travesty.
Balaji was the minister for power and excise in the Stalin cabinet but following his arrest by the ED, the Chief Minister took the portfolios held by the former and gave it to two of his acolytes.
Despite the order by Governor RN Ravi, Chief Minister Stalin has not dropped the tainted minister from the cabinet and this has put the government in a dilemma. The DMK’s alliance partners say that charity should begin at home referring to the temple visits made by Stalin’s wife Durga to all leading temples in South India praying for the success and well being of her husband and son Udhayanidhi. Durga had offered a gold headgear wearing 32 sovereigns to Lord Krisha, the presiding deity of the famous Guruvayurappan Temple in Kerala on August 11. She also donated a state-of-the-art machine to grind sandalwood into paste at the temple. Her agents in Guruvayur Temple said that her prayers were for the elevation of Udhayanidhi as deputy Prime Minister after the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. To queries about the rationalism propagated by the DMK , the agents retorted. “So what? That’s for the party cadre”.
Well, if anyone feels a resemblance to the words of George Orwell in Animal Farm that all animals are equals though some are more equal, it may be a strange coincidence.
