The advocates boycotted the judicial work at Allahabad High Court as well as in the District Court in protest against the alleged lathicharge on the lawyers by the Hapur police. The strike call was given by the UP Bar Council and the Allahabad High Court Bar Association. The advocates staged a demonstration at different gates of the High Court, while an effigy of the UP DGP was also torched in front of the main gate.
They demanded stern action against the police personnel involved in Hapur lathi charge, withdrawal of cases against lawyers and implementation of the Advocates Protection Act.
The district court lawyers also boycotted judicial work and took out a procession to lodge their protest.
The advocates had gone on a flash strike on August 30 to condemn the Hapur incident. The litigants had to face a tough time owing to the advocates’ strike.
DUPED: A retired army man was deprived of gold chain and rings in Georgetown area by four thugs who introduced themselves as police personnel.
Raj Kumar Shukla, an ex-army man who resides in Daraganj, left for Civil Lines on his bike and took the route of Sangam petrol pump- Georgetown police station to reach the destination. He was stopped by four persons near Pepsi agency. They introduced themselves as police personnel, and said that Raj Kumar had jumped police barrier. They threatened Raj Kumar and asked him to show his identity card.
After checking his ID, the thugs asked Raj Kumar to remove gold chain and ring and keep them in the pocket because chain snatchers are active in the city. In the mean time another person was stopped and asked to do the same. When Raj Kumar removed his chain and ring, he was offered a paper to wrap the valuables.
The thugs extended help in wrapping the chain and ring and let Raj Kumar go. When he reached his destination, Raj Kumar unwrapped the paper found that the chain and ring were not there.
An FIR had been lodged at the Georgetown police station in this connection.
