Technology has impacted the world in a big way. In order to help students live a balanced life, they need to know how to balance the use of technology.
Mindfulness is defined as, “maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and the surrounding environment.” Being more mindful individuals helps us learn how to balance technology in our lives.
Piyush Singh Chauhan, Vice Chairman of SR Group is well aware of the perils of technology and is a firm advocate of mindful use of technology.
In that regard, he says, "Many teens spend every minute of free time on their phones, playing video games, or lost in the screens of their laptops. In fact, teens now spend around nine hours a day in front of a screen—and that doesn’t include screen time they may log doing homework or at school. Increasingly, students just don’t know how to deal with boredom, loneliness, and unpleasant feelings. This is where we bring the role of mindfulness."
Owing to some recent events which have been a result of careless use of technology, Piyush Singh Chauhan who heads a school and college echoes the importance of cultivating deep values that are able to withstand the test of technological advancements.
He remarks, "Let us understand one thing and help our students also understand it. That the world is moving rapidly. Everyday there is a new change. We are educators and parents cannot shield our children from such advancements. Do we not want them to be a part of this ever evolving future? Sure there are perils, there is danger but if we equip them with strong moral values then we give them mindfulness to act in a more graceful manner. Technology is the future. The onus on making it a good servant of our students is on us."
