Quality education can enable welfare of human race: Guv

Sunday, 20 November 2022 | PNS | Ranchi

Governor Ramesh Bais inaugurated a study centre of Jharkhand Open University at Deoghar on Saturday and participated in a seminar organised on ‘National Education Policy 2020. On the occasion he congratulated AS College, Deoghar, Economic Association of Bihar and The Indian Economic Association for organizing the event.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion he said, “The identity of any nation on the global stage depends on its quality education. The welfare of the entire mankind can be done with the talent and resources of the country through higher level education. The National Education Policy-2020 has been made keeping these ideas at the centre.”

“The National Education Policy is a concept to ensure the bright future of the students. This education policy connects us to our land. This policy does not oppose other languages and emphasizes on adopting mother tongue, because our thinking, culture, behaviour are completely linked to our mother tongue. After the implementation of this education policy, our students will not be left behind due to linguistic reasons. This is the first education policy which is practical and in national interest. Knowledge has been valued in this. With the new education policy, children will be motivated to go to school,” said the Governor.

“This education policy will help in changing the present colonial education system. Where for years our education policy was preparing only job-seeking youth, the new policy will develop such an education system which will play an important role in making youth self-reliant and job creators. This education policy also talks about character upliftment,” he added.

The Governor further said that a good educational institution is considered to be one where good infrastructure and appropriate resources are provided for the learning of every student, the teachers there are dedicated towards education, they are considerate for their students like their own children and they become a true guide. The National Education Policy 2020 envisages these parameters.

He said that the National Education Policy is not just a policy document, but it is a reflection of the aspirations of all the students, teachers and citizens working in the education sector of India. The foundational principles of the new policy include creativity and critical thinking to encourage rational decision making and innovation.

“Special emphasis has been laid on research activities in this education policy. Importantly, this education policy underlines the fact that research can be done only by those who think in their own language. This is because the fundamental thinking ability develops in one's own language and its basis is decided from the early education itself,” said Bais.

“A new approach has been adopted at the level of higher education. Now if a student chooses a technical or science subject as a subject, he can choose humanities or social science or any other subject as a second subject. The compulsion to remain confined to the subjects of science, commerce and arts is over. Our students can now take any subject of their choice. Special attention has been given to the interest of the student,” he added.

“Jharkhand State Open University has been established in the state of Jharkhand and today the study center of this university is also being established here. The establishment of this study center will greatly benefit the people around,” said the Governor.
