With a power crisis looming large, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday called on Union power minister R K Singh and discussed measures required for uninterrupted supply of electricity in the state.
In the meeting, Haryana assured that it will take all necessary steps to revive generation from the power plants with which it has PPA (power purchase agreement). This will start in three days. Haryana will enter into a PPA with NEEPCO (North Eastern Electric Power Corporation) for about 300 MW of power from Kameng Hydro Electric Power Plant in Arunachal Pradesh, it said.
Haryana has decided to set up a new unit of 750 MW at its Yamuna Nagar plant for which the power ministry will extend all possible assistance. Khattar also asked for assistance in early exploration of its captive coal block in Jharkhand, and the Union minister assured him that he will take up the matter with the coal ministry.
Haryana has expressed its willingness to acquire one of the stressed power plants to ensure adequate resources for power supply to consumers in the state. it was agreed that Haryana will implement tolling options to reduce dependence on railway transportation of coal.
Responding to a media query, Khattar said that 1000 MW more power would be made available in Haryana before May 15, 2022. He said that the power issues are not limited to one state only. The availability of power in Haryana is good as compared to other states.
In view of thermal power plants witnessing a dip in their coal stocks, Haryana Power Minister Ranjeet Singh Chautala said that the State will take additional power from states like Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh and other sources to meet the consumption. Chautala said, "We will tackle the situation within a week. 1200-1400 MW additional power would be taken from Adani. Power consumption has increased. Further, 350 MW of additional power would be taken from Chhattisgarh and 150 MW from Madhya Pradesh."
Meanwhile, the Haryana DISCOMs said they always strive to provide quality and uninterrupted power supply to the consumers. According to officials, several efforts are being made by Haryana DISCOMs to deal with a recent shortage of power in the state due to shutdown of imported coal based power plants.
The officials said that NIT for procurement of 1000 MW Power was floated under medium term for a period of 3 years on March 21. Two bidders participated in the bid. Haryana Power Purchase Centre (HPPC) filed a petition before Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) on April 6. However, HERC has fixed its schedule for public hearing after 21 days on April 27. HPPC vigorously pursued with the Ministry of Power to reallocate the surrendered Power by the other states, MOP on March 28 allocated 728.68 MW from Dadri II TPS.
