A district-level electricity committee meeting was held here on Tuesday, where Jagatsinghpur MP Dr Rajashree Mallick chaired.
The district-level electricity committee aims to ensure the involvement of people in the process under the Government of India-funded schemes of electrifying villages and hamlets.
Recently, the Union Government has approved a new scheme of Rs 3 lakh crore for strengthening the distribution systems and modernizing the electrification process to meet emerging challenges in the power sector. So the committee has been mandated to verify the impact of the works on the quality and reliability of power supply, performance of consumer services and grievance redressal system.
MP Dr Mallick lamented that the committee was not holding regular meetings and asked the Energy department to present their action plan and activities.
Superintendent Engineer Amarjit Patnaik revealed that two electric divisions function in Jagatsinghpur district. There are 17 33- KV feeders and 94 11-KV feeders through which as many as 2, 36,000 consumers are supplied power, he informed.
Many members criticised the department for irregular supply of power and low voltage problem.
The meeting was attended by Government Chief Whip Prashant Muduli, former Minister and MLA Raghunandan Das, Collector Parul Patwari, the Project Director, DRDA, ADM, Jagatsinghpur, Executive Engineers and officials of Tata Power.
