The Superintendents of Central Tax who are the main field officers in the Central GST all over India kept away from the GST Day Celebrations on Friday( July 1). This was as per the call of the All-India Association of Superintendents of Central Tax (AIASCT), the only association recognised by the Union Finance Ministry to represent the cadre of Superintendents.
The association intended to draw attention to the way in which the Central Board of Indirect Taxes had been functioning wherein the working conditions under the CBIC were adversely affecting the effective implementation of GST in the long run.
The chief concerns raised by the association related to policy issues, poor and inadequate IT and other infrastructure and unscientific HR management. The association felt that if corrective measures were not initiated urgently in the GST administration of the country, it would have a very adverse effect in the long run.
The frustration is increasing every day in the Department due to squalid conditions and already many officers in the field have started to quit on VRS.
In a letter addressed to the Revenue Secretary, the association said that in these circumstances the Superintendents of Central Tax have nothing to celebrate on the GST Day. "We are staying away from the GST Day celebrations. If the CBIC is not going to take the concerns of our cadre seriously and address them at least now, the association will be compelled to decide on methods to protect the interest of its members by asking them to keep away from any unspecified duties in future," it said.
