The election agent of BJP candidate Brahmanand Netam on Tuesday filed a reply to Jharkhand Police and sought time till December 8 after the police said they needed to quiz him in connection with a case filed against him.
As the candidate is busy campaigning, time has been sought till December 8, said Saurabh Singh, a BJP MLA.
Singh said Jharkhand Police served a notice for interrogation to Netam in the alleged rape of a minor. He was asked to appear before a police team.
As per constitutional provisions, an official representative of the candidate, election agent Nandu Ojha, filed the reply and the police had accepted the reply, he said.
Netam is the BJP nominee for the December 5 by-election in the Bhanupratappur assembly constituency. The votes will be counted on December 8.
Chhattisgarh Food and Civil Supplies Minister Amarjeet Bhagat said earlier that BJP leaders themselves had provided the necessary documents of the case to Congress leaders to rake up the issue. This was due to squabbles within the BJP.
Ojha said the police handed over the notice to the family Netam.
He said it would be convenient if the next notices were issued after December 8. Jharkhand Police Deputy Superintendent of Police Sumit Kumar said his teams were conducting raids to nab some more accused in the case.
