Police have rescued four children and arrested two traffickers from Koderma railway station. These children were being trafficked from Girdih to Delhi. The entire rescue operation was initiated on the basis of information provided by the children of Bal Mitra Gram in Giridih.
The Bal Mitra Gram (BMG) or child-friendly villages is an initiative of Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation (KSCF) and works for preventing various forms of child exploitation, such as child labour, child trafficking and child marriage.
Early morning around 3 am on Friday, a few children of Bal Mitra Gram in Giridih informed KSCF activists about four children being trafficked. After verifying the information, the activists then pursued the traffickers who had left the village for Koderma.
The traffickers were planning to board the Delhi bound Swarnajayanti Express at Koderma railway station. The railway police were informed in the nick of time and the children were rescued before the train could depart.
The rescued children said that the traffickers had promised them a steady income, regular employment and a good future. The rescued children are from three different villages: Sakam, Nagari and Dhanukutta under Lokai Nayanpur police station in Tisri Block of Giridih. The GRP Koderma has registered an FIR in the matter.
The traffickers have revealed to police that they were trafficking the children to Delhi for employing them in roadside eateries. They had also promised regular payments to the parents of the children.
“Children have always shown the way for the world. This incident is a testimony that empowered and aware children are young agents of change who are leading the country towards a brighter future. We sincerely hope that the anti-trafficking bill gets passed in the upcoming session”, said Omprakash Pal, senior director of BMG.
