Safety, education and nutrition are the rights of every child, and everyone must be given these, the Chairman of the Chhattisgarh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Tejkunwar Netam, said on Sunday.
She said the state government can make arrangements for the safety and nutrition of children but the society too must come forward. The safety of girls should be the priority.
She was addressing the first quarterly review meeting-cum-workshop organized by the Commission in Naya Raipur.
The Commission for the first time has ensured participation of the Juvenile Justice Board, the District Legal Services Authority and the District Child Protection Unit in the meeting.
The Executive Chairman of the Legal Services Authority, Goutam Bhaduri, said the event would bring clarity in the functioning of all units.
He said motivational books based on moral stories were part of the children’s daily routine earlier. But mobile phones have taken over and the ill effects have started to emerge, harming childhood, he added.
Job Zachariah, Chief of the UNICEF Field Office in Chhattisgarh, said it is the collective responsibility of everyone to secure the rights of children. For this, a change in thinking is necessary.
A discussion was held on the Juvenile Justice Act (Care and Protection of Children) 2015 and POCSO Act (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act) 2012. The need for disposal of pending cases was underlined.
