The new Parliament building is expected to host a one-day sitting of both houses on November 28. The remainder of the Winter Session could take place in the old building. The Winter Session conventionally begins in the third week of November every year and goes on till Christmas break.
With the construction of the new Parliament building underway, there has been confusion over the scheduled Winter Session. Sources said the newly-constructed Parliament House could see a “soft launch” with a single sitting of the each House. Work on the two main chambers —the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha — are on verge of completion. The Government had said it will hold the Winter Session in the new building during the 75th anniversary of Independence.
With less than a month to go for the November deadline, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said construction work of the new Parliament building is going on at a very fast pace.
Puri said there are over 4,000 people working round-the- clock on the project and claimed that he visits the construction site every week. He said it was up to the government to make the announcement regarding the date.
