PM: G-20 Presidency unique chance to showcase country's strengths to world

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday chaired an all-party meeting at the Rashtrapati Bhavan with Central Ministers, Chief Ministers of several States and other leaders to solicit suggestions for the G-20 Summit scheduled for September 9 and 10 next year in New Delhi.

At the meeting, the Prime Minister stated that India’s G20 Presidency belonged to the entire nation, and it was a unique opportunity to showcase the country’s strengths to the entire world. Modi also pointed that there is global curiosity and attraction towards India today, which further increases the potential of India’s G-20 Presidency.

He emphasised the importance of teamwork, and sought the cooperation of all leaders in the organisation of various

G-20  events.

He pointed out that the

G-20 Presidency would help showcase parts of India beyond the conventional big metros, thus bringing out the uniqueness of each part of our nation.

Highlighting the large number of visitors who would be coming to India during India’s G-20 Presidency, the Prime Minister took note of the potential for promoting tourism and boosting the local economies of the venues where G-20 meetings would be organized.

Before the Prime Minister spoke, various political leaders shared their valuable insights on India’s G-20 Presidency.

Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik, Sikkim’s Prem Singh Tamang, Maharashtra’s Eknath Shinde, and Delhi’s Arvind Kejriwal attended the meeting.

Other Chief Ministers who attended the meeting were Andhra Pradesh’s Jagan Mohan Reddy and Tamil Nadu’s MK Stalin.

BJP president JP Nadda, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, CPI general secretary D Raja and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief Chandrababu Naidu too were in attendance at the high level meet at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Minister Piyush Goyal represented the Government at the meeting.

India assumed the G20 presidency on December 1. The country is expected to host over 200 preparatory meetings across the country beginning this month.

Modi has announced a domestic political campaign programme around the theme “One Earth-One Family-One Future”.
