Having beefed up security around Bollywood super star Salman Khan’s Bandra residence “Galaxy Apartments” in the wake of death threat to him and his writer-father Salim Khan, the Mumbai police are suspecting the possible involvement of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang behind the much-discussed threat.
A Mumbai Police team is leaving for New Delhi to question Bishnoi on his suspected involvement in the alleged threats to the Khan family. The family’s security team had found a letter near Khans’ home on Sunday, threatening to do a ‘Moosewala’ with Salman Khan and his father Salim Khan. Bishnoi, who is being investigated for of investigations of the murder of singer-rapper from Punjab Sidhu Moosewala late last month, is currently in the custody of the Delhi Police’s Special Cell.
Bishnoi’s name cropped during the course of investigations into the death threat letter received by 87-year-old Salim Khan, as the letter contained the initial LB. Even in the past, Bishnoi had vowed to kill Salman Khan after the actor was named as an accused in the 1998 Blackbuck poaching case in Rajasthan.
Police said that an unidentified person handed over the death threat letter to Salim Khan while he was resting on a bench near his home after his morning walk at 7.30 am on Sunday.
The threat letter, addressed to Salim Khan and his actor-son in Hindi, reportedly told them "Moosewala bana denge” -- in effect that both of them would meet the same fate as slain Sidhu Moosewala.
Following the receipt of the threat letter, the Khan family complained to the Bandra police who swiftly registered an FIR against unknown persons.
A Mumbai Police team, led by Joint Commissioner of Police Vishwas Nangre-Patil and other officers, visited “Galaxy Apartments”, inspected the place and spoke to Salim Khan and security officials on Monday. The security around Khans’ residence was beefed up.
Nangre-Patil also met State Home Minister Dilip Walse-Patil and briefed him about the progress in the investigations in the case.
The Mumbai Crime Branch sleuths are assisting the Bandra police in the investigations.
Speculation has it that Bishnoi had – during a questioning conducted in 2021 – reportedly confessed to have conspired to kill Salman Khan. During the questioning, Bishnoi had admitted to having hired Sampat Nehra, a gangster from Rajasthan, to kill Salman Khan.
Nehra had allegedly travelled to Mumbai and carried out reconnaissance around Salman Khan’s home.
Nehra could not accomplish the task assigned to him by Bishnoi as he could not get a clear shot of the actor from his pistol.
