In the Kesari movie which was released in 2019, superstar Akshay Kumar, who was the lead actor in the film, won hearts for retelling the epic tale of 21 Sikh soldiers who fought against 10,000 Pashtun invaders under the leadership of Havildar Ishar Singh, a soldier in the British Indian army.
The film, titled Kesari, turned out to be a huge box office hit. As the cast of the upcoming biopic "Padma Shri Kaur Singh" prepares for its release, its lead actor discusses the connection between Kesari and his film.
Giving reference to the film’s first song, ‘Maidan Fateh’, which was released on Sunday, Karam said, "Before the song starts, there is a dialogue where a senior army officer boosts Kaur Singh’s confidence by reminding him of the battle of Saragarhi that took place on September 12, 1897. He tells Kaur Singh that if 21 soldiers can muster courage and defeat a whole army of Afghans (10,000 approximately), then fighting an international boxer (Muhammad Ali) shouldn’t be something for him to be bothered about. He encourages him to live up to the reputation of Sikhs and asks him to be on the ground for practice. "
