The coup in Germany by Reichsburger movement shows that the ultra right is steadily growing
It may not have been a perfect coup, in fact a clumsy one to say the least but it is an eye opener nevertheless. The bid to violently topple the democratic set up in the Germany, (and it was not to topple the government but to overthrow the entire political system) should not be taken lightly as many people are doing, brushing aside as childish attempt to overthrow a strong political system which is far more powerful than the neo Nazis might have thought. This is of course true but the rise of neo Nazis in Germany as also in several parts of the western world is alarming and should be nipped in the bud before it grows like cancer and becomes a threat to the world.
The German police foiled the coup and arrested dozens of members of the far-Right Reichsbürger movement for a bid to overthrow the German republic. The movement was led by individuals from different backgrounds and included army personnel, a pilot, a lawyer, and even a chef. They planned to storm the German parliament, take legislators as hostages, and then install Heinrich Ruess, a far right activist as a king. The Reichsbürger plotters were inspired by American QAnon networks, which hold the belief that President Donald Trump is waging a secret war against an international cabal of satanic pedophiles. Though there is little doubt that the attempt could not have fetched the desired result, the conviction and stubbornness of the extremists is worrisome. And this is not for the first time that such a thing has been witnessed and if no stern measures are adopted to weed out such elements the situation could become even worse. Two years ago, the German government disbanded an entire élite Special Forces unit because it was influenced by the far-Right. Walter Lübcke, a German politician was assassinated for supporting immigration. The Reichsbürger movement Founded by Wolfgang Ebel, believes the German State is an illegitimate foreign occupation, a conspiracy to subjugate German values and history. This is high time to curb the tide of the ultra right across the world which if goes unchecked could be a big nuisance. Nobody had taken Winston Churchill when he said the rise of Hitler in Germany was a big danger. In a matter of a few years after he was imprisoned for a ridiculous coup in 1923, he ceased the control of Germany. Will history repeat itself?
