A married woman faced the wrath of some fellow village women in a Kangaroo court. She was tonsured, her face was pasted with black and white ink and she was allegedly stripped on September 17.
The Pattamundai police on Tuesday swung into action and arrested as many as 10 women for their involvement in the crime after a video of the incident went viral in social media.
According to police sources, one Bindushree, wife of Adwaita Kumar Dash, a resident of Dakhinidiha village under the Pattamundai police station, was staying at her father's house at Badahaat under Kendrapada town.
Three months back, she allegedly collected Rs 1,200 from some village women, who were loan aspirants on the promise of helping them get loan. However, she failed to provide loan on September 17 came with the money to return to the women. But the women beat her for not being able to keep her promise. Later, she was stripped and her head was tonsured by them. Some villagers snatched her ornaments, ATM card and cash of Rs 25,000, she alleged.
Bindushree lodged an FIR on Tuesday at the Pattamundai PS. The arrestees were produced in court and remanded in jail custody after the court rejected their bail pleas. A raid was on to nab other accused persons.
