A public hearing for expansion of Rungta Mines Limited's Kamanda Steel Plant was held on March 9 at Mundasahi Anganwadi Centre play ground of Koira block under Sundargarh district.
At the beginning steel plant chief general manager Pranay Deo appraised the public regarding the impacts and remedy of the project. He also said with the expansion of the plant the peripheral development works will be expedited further.
The villagers urged the plant management for local employment, drinking water facilities, electricity, ambulance services, development of road and playground, more plantations, engagement of more teachers in village schools, construction of bus stand at Kusumdihi etc.
The management agreed to fulfil the demands and the expansion proposal got public nod.
Among others, Sundargarh ADM Biswajit Mohapatra, Bonai Sub collector Pradip Dang, Rourkela Pollution Control Office head Dr Prakash Kumar Mohapatra, Scientist Deepak Wahoo, other block officials, steel plant administration head Ramu Agarwal, logistic head BB Patel, villagers and local political leaders were present.
