Residents and the business community of Ranchi have been facing problems due to frequent power outages for more than the past week.
Now Federation of Jharkhand Chambers of Commerce & Industries has asked the state government to regularise the power supply as their business is affected.
On average Ranchi faces load shedding for two and three hours on the daily basis. All three power grids have been alerted that there may be less power supply hence the distribution will have to be done on a rotational basis.
Ranchi first witnessed an irregular power supply on December 21 and it is continuing to this date.
During the peak hour, Ranchi needs around 50 MGW but is getting anything between 15 MGW to 20 MGW which is not sufficient to meet the requirement. But there is no official information about the sudden power outage.
In fact, Jharkhand is getting 300 MGW less power and six districts under the command area of the DVC have been reeling under power shortage.
While the rural areas of Ranchi are suffering the most, even the situation in the urban areas is not good.
On Friday, even urban areas witnessed a power problem as Ranchi got less than half it required to maintain an optimum condition. The power outage continued for around four hours with repeated intervals.
“All are suffering due to the power crisis including students also. Now there is online study and everything depends upon the power. Most of my friends don’t have power backups at their homes. They rush to my house because there is no fixed time when power will be cut and resumed. Our classes continue till late evening,” said Ishika Mishra, a medical aspirant.
So is the case with people of the business community. “People involved in manufacturing can’t work without electricity and so is the case with small shopkeepers,” said Sujeet Kumar who has the business of pest control.
