NTPC recruits 49 villagers in Raigarh

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Monday congratulated the 49 land oustees in Raigarh district who got recruitment letters from public sector power major National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).

The 49 candidates hail from 9 villages and their land were acquired by the NTPC for its thermal power project at Lara in Raigarh. The event was organized in Raigarh and Chief Minister had joined the event virtually from his official residence in Raipur.

Baghel called for carrying out recruitment for remaining 22 posts which fall under reserved category on priority basis.

He further said that in future recruitments for NTPC Lara project should be given to those displaced by the project. He also advised district administration to ensure domicile people of the state should be given priority during recruitment process.

In a meeting on March 5, 2019 at Chief Minister’s official residence, Baghel had directed the NTPC Lara officials to ensure jobs to the people displaced by land acquisition for the project.

As per decision at the meeting, NTPC Lara advertised for 79 posts of IIT Diploma, Lab Assistant and Assistant General in different skilled trades. Only six candidates could be recruited in the first round. In a second round advertisement for 73 posts in November 2020, 49 candidates were selected, who were given appointment letters on Monday. The remaining 22 posts are for reserved categories, which are still lying vacant.

Alok Gupta, Executive Director, NPTC Lara assured that the land displaced people and domiciles of state will be given priority in future recruitments. The appointments were made on 19 posts of ITI Electrician Trade, 9 for fitter trade, 5 for lab assistant chemistry, 4 for diploma electrical trade, one for diploma mechanical trade and 11 for assistant general posts.

He added that permission has been sought for filling the remaining posts of 22. In case of non-availability of reserved category candidates these posts will be opened for general category.

Raigarh Collector Bhim Singh said that NTPC Lara, a super critical technology based power plant has two units of 800 MW capacity. The 50 percent of generated power is for the state. For the project 2000 acres of private land in nine villages –Armuda, Bodaiharia, Chapora, Devalsurra, Jhilgitar, Kandagarh, Lara, Mahloi and Riyapali had been acquired. 2449 farmers were affected. NTPC has released Rs 187 crore for paying compensation. As many as 500 people from the affected villages and 550 people from other districts of Chhattisgarh are presently working on the project.
