Ludhiana all set to become north India's industrial hub

Tuesday, 26 October 2021 | PNS | Chandigarh

Punjab Government is further set to elevate the status of Ludhiana as North India’s industrial hub with the Hi-Tech Valley being developed in an area of 378.77 acres in Dhanansu village by Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation, a State Government undertaking.

Stating this, the state’s Industries and Commerce Minister Gurkirat Singh Kotli on Monday said: “Approvals for layout plan, Change of Land Use (CLU), Environmental Clearance under EIA notification, RERA, etc have already been received for the entire chunk of 378.77 acres land. The project would entail the cost of Rs 365 crore.”

The Minister said that to provide high quality and reliable electricity, the Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL) would set up an electricity grid station of 400 KV on the 30 acres of land for which the land has been allotted. PSTCL has already initiated the development work on site, he added.

He said that to provide seamless connectivity, the Hi-Tech Valley has been connected with the Chandigarh-Ludhiana national highway by constructing a 100 feet wide four-lane and 8.3 km long external concrete road and handed over to the public on April 14, 2021.

Further, the internal development of Hi Tech Valley — that is construction of 33-meter and 24-meter wide internal concrete roads, storm water drainage system, sewerage collection system and effluent collection system have been completed and other works are in progress, said the Minister, adding that the basic internal development of the Hi-Tech Valley will be completed by February 28, 2022.

Spokesperson said that Hero Cycles Limited, a prominent player in the cycle industry, has come up with its state-of-the-art unit for manufacturing of high-end bicycles and e-bikes in the Hero Industrial Park of size 100 acres located within the Hi-Tech Valley. The unit was inaugurated in April 2021, and Hero Industrial Park would also have the ancillary units of this Anchor unit.

Similarly, Aditya Birla Group, a Fortune 500 company, has chosen the State of Punjab as an investment destination for its upcoming paints business through its flagship company Grasim Industries Limited. The Group has procured industrial land measuring 61.38 acres in the Hi Tech Valley for its new venture.

Aditya Birla’s upcoming plant will deploy the latest manufacturing technology and thus will operate at high technical efficiency. The plant will be controlled through the advanced technology of DCS/PLC. Automation will be deployed to manage the RM, PM and FG warehouses within the plant.

To ensure safe working standards, the plant will have best in class safety and environment protection systems. The plant will also use the principle of IIOT-4 to improve the visibility of manufacturing operations.
