When the entire country was in the grip of the novel coronavirus pandemic, the efforts of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath kept the economy of the state afloat. Uttar Pradesh not only attracted investors during the COVID-19 times but many of them have shown interest in investing in small and backward districts of the state.
According to a government spokesman, many companies have taken investment initiatives in the districts of Barabanki, Gorakhpur, Hardoi, Kanpur Nagar, Hamirpur, Bulandshahr, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Jalaun, Budaun, Amroha and Ghaziabad. In fact, four major companies are making investments of Rs 1,583 crore in the industrially backward districts of Hardoi, Gorakhpur, Hamirpur and Barabanki. In other districts, companies producing readymade garments are investing Rs 940 crore. This investment will not only change the face of the backward districts of UP in terms of industrial development, but it will also generate employment on a large scale.
According to data from the Department of Industrial Development, the companies investing Rs 1,583 crore in Hardoi, Gorakhpur, Hamirpur and Barabanki will give employment to many local people. Investment proposals of these companies have received consent from the government. Among the large companies whose investment proposal has been approved by the government, Britannia Industries will start its production in Barabanki by January 31, 2023. The company will invest Rs 340 crore and it will provide employment to one thousand people.
Similarly, JK Cem Central in Hamirpur will start production by March next year. It will make an investment of more than Rs 381.22 crore, with 204 people getting employment. Berger Paints Company in Hardoi will employ 150 people. The company will invest more than Rs 725 crore in Sandila, Hardoi. Apart from this, Gallant Industries in Gorakhpur will start commercial production from April next year. It will have an investment of 134.74 crore. The project will provide employment to 250 people.
Similarly, large companies producing readymade garments have come forward to set up factories in Gorakhpur, Kanpur Nagar, Bulandshahr, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Jalaun, Budaun, Amroha and Ghaziabad. These companies producing readymade garments are proposing to invest Rs 940 crore. About one lakh youth will get employment in these factories within a year under the investment and employment scheme of the textile industry.
According to officials, the units that are coming up include readymade garments in Noida, sanitary napkins in Gorakhpur, fabric and poly bags and hosiery in Kanpur Nagar, textile in Bulandshahr, weaving processing in Ghaziabad, yarn in Meerut, spinning in Jalaun, lace fabrics in Budaun, readymade garments in Amroha and Ghaziabad.
According to officials of the handloom and textile industry, in the budget of 2021-22, a target has been set to provide employment to about 25,000 people in the new financial year. Apart from this, more than 50,000 people will be provided employment under various schemes. With the establishment of these textile units in the above districts, the business environment will be created there and new employment opportunities will also be available, the government spokesman claimed.
Officials also say that in addition to seven new textile parks in the state and two mega textile parks to be built in collaboration with the Central government, Noida's apparel park will also give employment to millions of people. Apart from this, plans have been prepared to set up textile parks in Agra, Meerut, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Kanpur Nagar, Lucknow, Jhansi cities. The proposal related to this will be sent to the cabinet soon.
