Haryana CM lays foundation stone of MCG headquarters building, waste-to-energy plant

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday laid the foundation stone for the new headquarters building of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) and waste-to-energy (WTE) plant in Gurugram.

This program was organized at Vyapar Sadan located on Mehrauli Road, Gurugram on Friday.

After the event, Khattar said that it is a very important day for both for Gurugram and Faridabad districts. Waste-to-energy plants are being set up for the proper disposal of waste for both major districts.

"We are moving towards waste-to-wealth with new technology and Haryana's first plant to generate electricity from waste is operational in Sonepat and this plant to be set up in Gurugram will generate 6 lakh units per day and waste will be disposed of properly. Keeping in mind its capacity can be increased further," the CM said.

Regarding the MCG office building, the Chief Minister said that the civic body will soon get its building.

A new building of MCG will be constructed at Vyapar Sadan, Sector-14, at a cost of about

Rs 117 crore. The new building will be on the lines of state-of-the-art and green building and its construction work will be completed in about 2 years.

This building will be of 11 storeys including ground and provision has also been made for 3 basements. The basements will have a parking capacity of 466 vehicles. The building will house the offices of the Mayor's team and a town hall with a capacity of 125 persons has also been provided for the meetings of the House. The building will have four other meeting halls, waiting rooms for visitors, a cafeteria, exhibition space.

Apart from this, a councillors lodge, civic convenience centre, library, ATM and shops will also be constructed in the new building. The new building will also have a dispensary and a municipal auditorium with a seating capacity of 600 people will also be built. Provision has also been made for the gym, guest room and dormitory for the staff in the building.

Giving information about the waste-to-energy plant, Sanjay Sharma, Deputy CEO, waste management concessionaire Ecogreen Energy said that a WTE plant will be set up by the company at Bandhwadi on Gurugram-Faridabad road. The plant will have a capacity to generate 25 MW of electricity per day.

"After the installation of this plant, 25 MW of electricity will be generated daily from the waste. The plant will be based on the state of the art technology, with two boilers of 750-750 TPD capacity, a turbogenerator of 25 MW capacity and a control room. About 1900 tonnes of garbage reaches Bandhawari every day from both the cities of Gurugram and Faridabad. After the installation of the plant, while the waste will be properly disposed of, on the other hand, 25 MW of electricity will be generated per day," he said.
