A Naxalite couple involved in attacks which killed dozens of security personnel and collectively carrying a reward of Rs 10 lakhs surrendered in Dantewada in Chhattisgarh on Thursday, police said.
Pojja alias Sanju Madavi (24) and his wife Lakkhe alias Tulsi Madavi (22) turned themselves in before police officials in Dantewada town citing their disillusionment with the Maoist ideology, Dantewada Superintendent of Police Dr Abhishek Pallava said.
Pojja was active as Platoon Number-9 Commander while his wife Lakkhe was the Commander of Suraksha Dalam, he said.
They were involved in attacks which killed 26 CRPF personnel in Chintagufa in 2020 and 22 security personnel in 2021 at Tarrem, said the officer.
They were also involved in several other attacks and looting of arms and ammunition from security forces.
So far, 459 Naxalites have quit violence in the district since June last year, the official said.
