The move of the Central Council of Indian Medical Regulations (CCIMR) to permit Ayush doctors to conduct dental procedures has been challenged in the Supreme Court by a senior dental surgeon.
Dr Vivek Kumar, who is executive committee member of Indian Dental Council(IDC) besides president of Jharkhand State Dental Council(JSDC) and president of the Jharkhand Dental Association (JDA) in his petition claims that the decision of the CCIMR would have devastating effect on the patients health as most of the Ayush doctors are not trained adequately to hold dental procedures compared to a dental surgeon .
Dr Vivek in his petition mentions that the dental surgeons pass through five long years of medical study and training for doing dental procedures . Besides they also are trained in the application of medicines . Under these circumstances the move of the Council is highly objectionable and is like playing with lives of the patients requiring dental treatment, says Dr Vivek.
Dr Vivek said ,"Its a move to protect the rights of the dental surgeon . The IDA is committed to fight for saving the interest of dental surgeons of the country".
