A mock drill for supplying start-up power from the Hasdeo Bango Hydroelectric Power Station (Korba) to re-operate the thermal power stations in the event of a sudden blackout was successfully done at the Chhattisgarh State Load Despatch Centre here.
The drill was done to ensure that in case of a blackout in an emergency, electricity could be delivered from hydroelectric power plants in 40 minutes to restart the power plants of Korba West, an official communication said on Saturday.
In a sudden blackout, it is difficult to restart the tripped thermal power plants. It requires immediate electricity supply which is possible through hydroelectric power plants based in the state.
The drill was conducted through Daganiya Load Despatch Centre of Chhattisgarh State Power Transmission Company in coordination with engineers of the Western Regional Load Despatch Centre, Mumbai.
As per the provisions of the Indian Electricity Grid Code and State Grid Code, such mock drill has to be done twice in a year.
As part of a mock drill, an island sub-system was first formed consisting of areas fed from the substations of Bango Hydro Power Station, Chhuri Khurd, Jamnipali and Korba East.
An artificial power crisis was created in Churikhurd, Jamnipali and Korba areas. The whole process of restoration of power took 40 minutes by restarting all the power plants.
