Top police brass to discuss security issues at DGP/IGP meet in Lucknow

The annual meet of all Director Generals of  Police (DGPs)  and Inspectors General of Police (IsGP) will be held in Lucknow from November 20-22 where vital national security priorities will be brainstormed by the top police brass.

The three-day event, organized annually by the Intelligence Bureau, will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla among others.

The chiefs of Intelligence Bureau and Research and Analysis Wing, heads of the Central Police Organizations and Central Armed Police Force will also attend the meeting.

Around 250 officers in the rank of DGP and IGP from all states, Union Territories and Central paramilitary and CPOs will participate in the brainstorming sessions to address the current future policing challenges.

Spiral in the low intensity conflict in Jammu and Kashmir, cyber terrorism, online radicalization, Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, Maoist issue and emerging threats, including on the economic front, are the key issues that will be delved in meeting, sources said.

During the last year conference held virtually and the ,  the role of police during the Covid-19 pandemic was discussed  and  the discussion was held  on increasing the  knowledge and capabilities to handle natural disasters of  the police in detail and the state police chiefs shared their experiences  in handling the pandemic and how the police have helped distressed people and migrant workers during the nationwide lockdown.

The DGPs and IGPs conference is an annual affair where senior police officials of the states and the Centre meet and discuss issues of importance.

Amid the Covid-19 pandemic last year, the annual conference was held virtually. Earlier, the conferences were held in Guwahati, Rann of Kutch in Gujarat, Hyderabad, Tekanpur in Madhya Pradesh and Pune.

Before 2014, the annual event was organized in the national capital. However, the Modi government has been organising it in various other cities.
