VIT-AP University, Amaravati, conducted three days virtual international conference in the area of applications of fluid dynamics. The conference, ICAFD-2020, is the fifth international conference in the series. It was aimed at establishing a premier international forum that brought together scientists, engineers and industrial experts to present the latest achievements and innovations in the areas of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics.

ICAFD-2020 invited resource persons from abroad (USA, Australia, UAE, Singapore, South Africa) and reputed universities (IIT, NIT, VIT, Central University) from India for the talk. The conference was the result of a long collaborative effort between the School of Mechanical Engineering, VIT-AP University and the Department of Mechanical Engineering Science, University of Johannesburg, South Africa.

In the welcome address, VC Dr SV Kota Reddy welcomed the founder and chancellor Dr G Viswanathan, VIT University. Dr Reddy highlighted the role of conference for intellectual growth of an individual, followed by the importance of applications aspects of fluid dynamics influencing our daily life.

Dr Pankaj Tambe, chairperson of the conference said that 175 participants registered for the conference. Hundred participants presented their papers. Out of this, 25 participants were from USA, Canada, South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Malaysia, UAE, Singapore, West Indies, Australia. The rest of the papers were from different states of India.

The inaugural address was given by Dr R Paneer Selvam, University of Arkansas, USA. He highlighted the important challenges a fluid dynamics researcher has to work in the near future for the advancement of this area. Dr Viswanathan praised the School of Mechanical Engineering, VIT-AP University for organising the conference during the pandemic.

Dr S Srinivas, co-chair and convener of the conference highlighted the objectives. Dr CLV Sivakumar, registrar, VIT-AP University, presented the vote of thanks. He praised the efforts taken by Dr S Srinivas, Dr Pankaj Tambe, Dr Mohanty, Dr Satyanarayana Badeti, Dr Amit, Dr VR Reddy, S Karthikeyan and Dr J Prakash for successfully arranging the conference.
