UNICEF and the National Service Scheme (NSS) on Tuesday launched ‘The Blue Brigade’ campaign to support women and children while addressing the adverse impact of Covid-19 in Chhattisgarh.

The ‘Blue Brigade’, consisting of NSS volunteers, will support children and families in villages and urban areas to access essential services like immunization, health and nutrition services, sanitation and continued learning of children, a press release said.

The volunteers, directly and through social media platforms, will share key information and raise awareness on issues related to children which might have worsened due to the impact of Covid.

Blue Brigade volunteers will also monitor and make efforts to prevent incidents of child protection like child marriage, child labour, child trafficking and violence against children, it said.

There are about 96,000 NSS volunteers in Chhattisgarh in 425 colleges and seven Universities, spread over all districts in the state. The campaign aims to reach about 10 lakh people (offline and online) during the three-month long campaign, it added.

Job Zachariah, Chief of UNICEF in Chhattisgarh, said that difficult times like the Covid pandemic call for innovative and unique approaches.
