The High Court has directed the State Government to establish and start operation of Intensive Care Units (ICUs) in all district hospitals before May 19. Considering issues being faced in routine functioning of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh, the division bench of justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Ravindra Maithani also directed that the State Government should ensure that any requirements or issues of AIIMS are addressed swiftly by the Dehradun district magistrate.
These orders were issued by the court while hearing a PIL seeking protection and proper medical facilities for doctors and other medical staff involved in treatment of COVID-19.
Advocate Dushyant Mainali had filed the PIL seeking proper protection and facilities for doctors involved in the treatment of COVID-19 in the state.
The petitioner had stated that hospitals lack proper facilities for tackling COVID-19 while doctors and other medical staff are not adequately protected.
The hospitals dedicated to treatment of COVID-19 and the hospitals in the mountainous regions lack ICUs and ventilators whereas these two facilities are essential in any hospital for treatment of COVID-19 cases, the petition had contended.
