Governor Baby Rani Maurya reviewed the ceremonial parade held at police lines to commemorate the occasion of the 21 State Foundation Day on Monday.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the governor said that the Uttarakhand police are doing good work for law and order, and maintaining peace. The police have also worked on the front assisting the people during the Covid-19 pandemic. While discharging their duties about 1,600 police personnel were also infected by Covid. Despite this, the police, doctors, nurses and all other employees are discharging their duties.
Referring to the important contribution made by women in creation of Uttarakhand, she stressed on the need for taking all possible measures for welfare and empowerment of women.Expressing concern at the threat posed to youths by drug abuse, she said that the anti-drugs task force will have to work at full capacity to tackle the menace. Maurya pointed out that work is underway to provide tap water in every home by 2022. Similarly, the state government is working consistently in education, health and other important spheres, said the governor.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said that after its creation, Uttarakhand had experienced a swifter pace of development compared to other states. The state is consistently progressing in the spheres of education, health, infrastructural development and women upliftment among others. Referring to the important role of women, he said that through self help groups (SHGs) the state government has facilitated the progress of women in spheres beyond agriculture. There are presently 30,000 women SHGs in the state, he added.
In his address, the director general of police, Anil K Raturi informed the gathering about the achievements of Uttarakhand police. The governor and CM also released a book on developmental works of the state government on the occasion.
