Aiming to take its fight against coronavirus to higher level, the Uttar Pradesh government announced to set up a ‘Covid Volunteer Force’ and appealed to youths to register themselves for serving the affected people.
“Youths, both boys and girls, in the age group of 21 to 30 years will be eligible to register for the force with the Health department website,” Principal Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad told news persons in Lucknow on Saturday.
He said that youths already enrolled with the NCC , NSS and Nehru Yuva Kendra along with youths from other social outfits would be asked to join the force.
Elaborating about the Covid volunteer force, Prasad said that the youthful outfit would help authorities in maintaining quarantine and shelter homes, community kitchens and serve society at the time of any emergency.
“At present, volunteers of NCC, NSS and Nehru Yuva Kendra and other outfits have been working with Health department across the state to combat the pandemic,” he added.
Earlier, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath advocated volunteers of Mangal Dal, NCC, Nehru Yuva Kendra and NSS as youth volunteers for community surveillance. He said that it had to be ensured that people got essential commodities during lockdown and action be taken against black-marketing, hoarding and other irregularities.
The chief minister also directed that women self-help groups be linked with food preparation for quarantine centres and shelter homes.
