Dharmashastra National Law University, Jabalpur inaugurated Legal Aid Clinic 'Vidhi Mitra' on Thursday under the aegis of Madhya Pradesh State Legal Service Authority, Jabalpur.
The Legal Aid Clinic was inaugurated by the Guest of Honour Justice Sanjay Yadav Acting Chief Justice High Court of M.P. , Patron In-Chief and Executive Chairman, MPSLSA and Chancellor, Dharmashastra National Law University in the august presence of Justice Sheel Nagu, Justice Anand Pathak , Justice Rajeev Kumar Shrivastava, Member Secretary Giri Bala Singh and Rajendra Kumar Vani through video conference on Thursday at 4:30 PM.
Legal aid is the provision of assistance to people who are unable to afford legal representation and access to the court system.
Legal aid is regarded as central in providing access to justice by ensuring equality before the law, the right to counsel and the right to a fair trial.
The three main purpose of the Legal Aid Clinic is to create legal awareness amongst the people, to outreach the people who are in need of law, and to litigate the cases of the poor.
Vidhi Mitra has been functioning since the inception of the University. It has conducted various camps, created blogs, extended helping hands towards migrant labours, and provided the poor and deprived kids with teaching assistance for free of cost under the program Adhyapan.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Balraj Chauhan congratulated the students and appreciated their efforts in legal aid and promised that the University will continue its work for the betterment of society with zeal and enthusiasm.
Prof. Chauhan also thanked the M.P.SLSA for their kind patronage and cooperation.
