The chief secretary Om Prakash has directed the officials concerned to get the feasibility study conducted for construction of a ring road around the Tehri dam reservoir and submit the report soon. He said this while chairing a meet on the subject at the secretariat on Monday.
The chief secretary said that the proposed construction of the ring road surrounding the Tehri dam reservoir is an important project included in the announcements made by the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. He directed officials to submit the report soon after getting the feasibility study conducted for the proposed construction of the ring road. Om Prakash said that all the departments concerned will have to make all possible efforts in order to develop the Tehri dam reservoir into an international-level tourist destination.
Tourism secretary Dilip Jawalkar informed that the Tehri dam reservoir covers an area of about 42 square kilometres. The total length of the proposed ring road around the reservoir is about 234 kilometres. He said that tourists visit the area throughout the year in order to view the Tehri dam reservoir.
With the construction of the proposed ring road and basic infrastructure needed for tourism development all around the reservoir, people living in many villages in this area will directly benefit from the developments. This ring road will prove to be instrumental in boosting tourism in the future and facilitating opportunities for employment, he added.
