Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Gopal Singh, on Thursday, has again appealed to its workers to abstain from the ongoing strike for development of the coal industry as well as the nation as a whole. He also thanked them for responding positively to his appeal and working for self-reliance in the energy sector with the objective to reduce coal imports in future.
Singh further requested them to resume duty without any further delay for ensuring normal production and dispatch. He reiterated that none of the mines of auction is of Coal India or its subsidiaries including CCL.
The Government’s recent announcement to permit coal mining for commercial sale marks a fundamental shift in the Government policy to address the shortfall in domestic coal production to meet the Country’s requirements. The need for coal for the development of the Country is increasing rapidly. According to an estimate, the Country will need about 2000 million tonnes (MT) of coal by the year 2030.
