The Chhattisgarh chapter of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) on Tuesday complimented Union Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan and Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal for bringing out a fair and robust policy notification to regulate e-commerce in India.
The state body said that the New Consumer Protection (E-commerce) Rules, 2020, is likely to make the entire e-commerce ecosystem in India much more transparent, equal for all stakeholders and protect the rights and interests of consumers.
CAIT National Vice President Amar Parwani said in a statement that for years the organisation has been demanding measures to control the unchecked run of the e-commerce players which according to him neglect the rights of the consumers and have scant regard for Indian laws.
He said that e-commerce players will now have to give details about return of goods, refund of money, exchange, warranty and guarantee, delivery and shipment and other information.
E-commerce platforms must also display the seller's geographic address, customer care number and any rating or other aggregated feedback. The violation of the rules will attract penal action under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
Parwani added that the CAIT had wanted display name of country of origin of goods and services. This has also been addressed.
