The Bharatiya Railway Mal Godam Shramik Sangh (BRMGSS), Odisha branch, led by its general secretary T Ramesh Kumar Rao gave a memorandum to the General Manager, East cost Railway Zone (Bhubaneswar) here seeking basic amenities of the labourers such as drinking water, toilets, resting and bathing facilities.
On October 28, 2003, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of former Union Labour Minister Dr Sahib Sing in New Delhi regarding the matter and it had been decided to provide the basic need of the labourers.
After that on May 25, 2004 Deputy Director, Traffic commercial (Rates) Railway Board, issued a letter to all General Managers, Indian Railway, regarding the implementation of the decision on facilities. In this connection on August 4, 2017, Minister of State, Railways, Rajen Gohain also issued an order to provide the facilities.
However, despite all this, the labourers have been deprived of the facilities since 2004, alleged the BRMGSS.
