The State Government has appointed Narendra Singh Bhandari as the new Vice Chancellor (VC) of Soban Singh Jeena University, Almora. Incidentally Bhandari would be the first VC of newly founded university.
A three member committee appointed by state government had made recommendation of Bhandari for the post. He, at present is member of Uttarakhand Public Service Commission, Haridwar. His appointment is made for a period of three years or till 65 years of age. A native of Naini Saini in Pithoragarh district, Bhandari did his graduation and post graduation in Chemistry from Pithoragarh.
He did his PhD from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and was appointed in Kumaon University in year 1988. He has published 42 research papers and authored five books. His eight students were awarded PhD. It is pertinent to mention here that Soban Singh Jeena University would be a residential university. All degree and PG colleges of Pithoragarh, Bageshwar and Champawat districts would be affiliated to it.
In another development on day, State government handed over additional charge of Director of Ayurveda and Yunani services to Dr Yatindra Singh Rawat. He at present is joint director in department.
