The farmers have stayed put at the Ghazipur border (UP Gate) on the 22nd day of their protest against the new farm laws. On Thursday, 17 khap panchayat members came to Ghazipur border and extended their support to farmers.
Rakesh Tikait, national president and spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Union said that if the government adopts some flexibility then the farmers are also ready to initiate talks. “Only then a decision can be made between the government and the farmer, but the government will not run arbitrarily,” he said.
In the context of the remarks made by the Supreme Court, the farmer leaders said that they have not closed any road. “The Delhi Police itself has stopped the farmers from going towards Jantar Mantar. Farmers are sitting where he was stopped. Their intention is not to affect the movement of the common man. They are protesting under democratic rights to fulfill their demands” said Tikait
The members of khap panchayats including Balian Khap, Tomar Khap Malik Khap, Jat Khap, Chahan Khap and Khandelwal Khap have extended their support to the farmers.
Tikait said that the farmers will continue their protest till the government repeal these farm laws. “Farmers are ready to talk to the government, if the government is ready. This movement will continue till the government withdraws all three laws,” said Tikait.
