‘Authorities to be liable for mishaps on GDMC route for allowing parking on both sides’

Monday, 05 October 2020 | PNS | Dehradun

Stating that there is no space for pedestrians to walk from Nardev Shastri Marg to the route of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital and the court premises as the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has allegedly given the contract of parking on both sides of the road, the president of Dehradun Mahanagar City Bus Seva Mahasangh, Vijay Vardhan Dandriyal said that said that if any accident occurs in future on this route, either the corporation or the police will be responsible for it.

Dandriyal said that he wrote a letter to SP (traffic) on Sunday stating that thousands of people including old people and small children go through the route everyday but there is not enough space for pedestrians to walk besides the vehicles as both the sides are used for parking with the permission of MCD.

According to him, the corporation is putting the life of pedestrians in danger due to their greed of some revenue. "The MCD is playing with people's lives, therefore I have written to SP (traffic) stating that if MCD has given the space for parking without police approval, the department should raise objection. If no action will be taken by authorities in this matter of putting the life of pedestrians in danger, I will approach the Human Rights Commission and the police will have to take blame for accidents of pedestrians occurring on this route due to the ignorance of the authorities," added Dandriyal.
