Rajnath announces two underpasses at IMA

Sunday, 08 December 2019 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Much to the relief of Dehradun’s citizens who had to undergo traffic ordeal whenever a major event like Passing out Parade (PoP) is held at Indian Military Academy (IMA), Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced that two underpasses would be constructed to link North and South campuses of the premier defence institution. These underpasses made at a cost of Rs 32.33 crore would ensure free flow of traffic on National Highway 72, separating the two campuses of IMA. During his speech as the Reviewing Officer (RO) of the Parade,  Singh said that these underpass will not only help the citizens of Dehradun, but will be helpful for the people going towards Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab.

He said, “From the year 1978 you had to face the problem of traffic jam on NH-72. Taking cognisance of the problem, Defence Ministry has taken the decision to connect the North and South wings of IMA through two underpasses.”

Giving gratitude for the announcement to the Defence Minister, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said that the decision will help with the traffic obstruction that can be seen around IMA during the time period of PoP.
