The students of National Law Institute University bagged the winner title at Ian Fletcher International Insolvency Law Moot Court Competition 2019 held in Singapore.
This is the first time for any Indian team to have won this Moot, which is the most prestigious competition in insolvency law globally.
NLIU team, included Aishwarya Srivastava (Fifth Year), Udyan Arya (Fifth Year), Christina Shaju (Fifth Year) and Kuhoo Mishra (Third Year). The team were Winners at the World Finals of the prestigious Ian Fletcher International Insolvency Law Moot Court Competition, held in Singapore on March 29 to 30.
Teams from across the world participated in this competition. The NLIU team beat teams from National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore Management University (SMU), Leiden University, Netherlands, University of British Columbia, Canada, and Queensland University of Technology, Australia among many others.
The moot problem was based on the UNCITRAL Model Law on Cross Border Insolvency and saw many leading practitioners and learned academicians from across the world judging the various rounds of the moot. The exam qualified for the world finals through a memo round. In Singapore, there were 3 preliminary rounds followed by Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and Finals.
The moot final was a fantastic display of appellate advocacy before eminent international judges including Justice Steven Chong, Judge of Appeal, Singapore, Chief Justice Cecilia Morris, Southern District of New York, USA; and (ret) Arjan Kumar Sikri, Supreme Court, India.
NLIU student Kuhoo Mishra was also adjudged as the Best Mooter in the Final Rounds, and she has been selected to observe UNCITRAL proceedings in New York/Vienna, which is a great honour for any student.
The moot is organised by INSOL International, the leading professional body of insolvency practitioners, in collaboration with UNCITRAL and International International Insolvency Institute. It is also supported by University of Queensland, Australia.
