Delhi will soon have new cultural centre at Vikaspuri as Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday accorded approval for the construction of the complex under Sahitya Kala Parishad’s demand to establish a publications wing and performing arts.
According to Delhi Government officials, the idea to construct new cultural center is to provide ample space for city people to perform art and also eminent artists can present their performance. “For cultural performance, Delhi needs more space, therefore, we have come up with this plan to establish a cultural centre at Vikaspuri. This will not only the eminent artists to come to Delhi and perform but also the people of Delhi who love culture will get a space to showcase their talent,” said Sisodia.
In the meeting which took place here in the Delhi Secretariat, the board members stressed on bringing in ‘Sahitya’ as a key component of the Sahitya Kala Parishad by restoring a publications wing within the Parishad . “We should treat publications as an important branch of Sahitya Kala Parishad. We can start with working on publishing Coffee Table books in the order of volumes, portraying the lives and legacies of renowned artists,” Sisodia added.
He also stressed on the importance of Parishad Samman, and directed the committee to restart the same. The Parishad has involved the original playwrights to review the literature being published to counter copyright infringement cases.
Construction of a cultural complex on a one acre of land at Budhela, Vikaspuri was also given a go-ahead by the board. It may be recalled that the land was allotted to the Sahitya Kala Parishad 13 years ago by DDA and its architectural design is being created keeping in mind the requirements of artists.
