In a barbaric incident, a man burnt his 75-year-old bedridden mother to death at Radabahal village under Belpada block in the district on Saturday. The accused was identified as Santosh Kharsel.
Sources said that Santosh had an altercation with his father Rishi Kharsel for some reason and later when his father went out of house, he set his mother on fire after dousing kerosene on her. The woman died on the spot.
Though accused fled from the scene, Belapada police immediately swung into action and nabbed him within a couple of hours. While the body was sent for postmortem, a case has been registered against the accused. “The accused will be forwarded to court soon,” said Belapada police station IIC Sachin Bariha.
