After CCTV and street light, free ride scheme for women in DTC buses, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government has decided to make the national Capital- 'pothole free city'.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced that the Public Works Department (PWD) of Delhi Government will inspect the 1,260 kilometers of roads coming under the department to make the city roads-a pothole-free.
"Delhi is a State which attracts many foreign tourists all around the year. The deteriorating condition of the roads tarnishes the image of the city. That is why the Government of Delhi has decided that it will repair the 1,260 kilometers of PWD roads after obtaining the data on the potholes. The roads will be repaired immediately," said Kejriwal.
A team of one Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) and one PWD engineer will be formed for every assembly. After which, the respected team will inspect the roads comes under its jurisdiction, covering a stretch of 25 kilometers. "The deployed team will inspect both the sides of the lanes and report bad roads or potholes. The Delhi government will start the repair work with immediate effect after receiving the reports," said CM.
The Government is also designing an application (App) where the badly maintained roads and pictures of potholes will be uploaded after a pothole was found during the inspection. The moment a person pictures, the locations of such roads will be detected by the application automatically. By the evening of October 5, the data on the number of potholes will be obtained, said Kejriwal.
The repair work will start after the data is obtained and verified. "The move will improve the functioning of the Delhi government in three areas: repairing of bad roads, repairing of potholes, and taking cognizance of the fact that some construction work of a particular department is going on. In the event of work in progress, we will wait till the work is completed by the concerned department.
Other roads will be repaired immediately," added the Chief Minister.
